Heat wave suspends airline services in eastern India

Scorching sun has led to suspension of many airline services in eastern India, officials said today.
Officials said several prominent airlines operating from Gaya airport in eastern Indian state of Bihar have suspended their services till September in view of the rising mercury that has made life miserable.
“The Myanmar International Airways service will operate till April while Mihin Lanka will operate its Colombo-Gaya-Colombo flights till April 4″, controller of Gaya international airport N Prabhudeb said today.
Many other airlines have either curtailed the number of flights or suspended their services, he said.
Officials said the holy land of Gaya where Buddha got enlightenment in 6th century BC witnesses at least 25 flights of different airlines during the peak tourist season.
They include Air India, Thai Airways, Druk Air, Myanmar Airlines, Mihin Lanka, Jet Airways and many charter flights.
A senior meteorological official said the hot winds blowing from north western region has increased temperature in Bihar.
