EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University.

EXPERIENCE: Joined Apache in June 1988 as vice president of domestic exploration and production and was promoted to senior vice president in 1991. He was appointed chief executive officer in May 2002, after serving as president and chief operating officer since 1994. He became chairman of the board in January 2009.

Before joining Apache, Farris was vice president and treasurer of Terra Resources, a subsidiary of Sempra. Before that, he was executive vice president of Robert W. Berry, Inc., an independent exploration and production company.
