Hiker out of hospital after Joshua Tree ordeal

LOS ANGELES — The hiker who chronicled the story of his survival on his hat during six days lost in Joshua Tree National Park without food or water has been released from the hospital.

A spokesman says Edward Rosenthal will talk about his ordeal Tuesday at a news conference in Los Angeles that will include some members of the search teams involved in his Sept. 30 rescue.

The 64-year-old real estate broker prepared for his death on the hat, telling his family how much they meant to him and naming potential pallbearers and the kind of food he wanted at his funeral service.

His spokesman says Rosenthal, known as “the broker poet,” plans to announce an effort to raise money for the search teams.
