CHENNAI - The Austrian hydraulic lifting, loading and handling systems manufacturer, Palfinger AG, will commission its Rs.8-crore 200-units-per-annum assembly facility here in December, a top company official said Thursday.

“We have developed the stiff boom crane for the Indian market. We will be sourcing major components like hydraulics from Indian suppliers. The cranes will be exported to Thailand, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Africa and the Middle East,” Palfinger Cranes India managing director Subhamoy Ghosh told reporters.

The 505 million-pound turnover company entered India in 2007 and has been importing and selling its knuckle boom cranes from Austria.

Queried about the companys absence in the voluminous pick-and-carry crane segment, Wolfgang Pilz, chief marketing officer, said: The industry is moving towards truck mounted cranes. Pick-and-carry cranes are popular only in India. We dont have a product in that segment.

According to Ghosh, the Indian facility will be sourcing the major components locally and the import content in the stiff boom crane will be very minimal.
