NEW DELHI - To ensure that onion and tomato prices remain stable over the weekend, the Azadpur wholesale market will remain open on Sunday, the market association announced Saturday.

According to the Azadpur Agriculture Product Market Committee (APMC), routine trading will be held at the market like on weekdays. The wholesale market normally remains closed on Sundays.

“The market will be open to ensure that there is no shortage of onions and tomatoes in the city and their wholesale prices remain stabilised,” the committee said.

Earlier this week, onion prices soared to Rs.80 a kg owing to shortage. The government swung into action and put a hold on the export of onions.

The Delhi government has also started selling onions at Rs.40 a kg from 400 outlets in the city.
