NEW DELHI - The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is all set to join social networking site Facebook from Wednesday to interact with citizens and solve their civic woes, including garbage removal, an official said Tuesday.

After the Delhi Traffic Police page on Facebook became a hit, the MCD is the second government department to set up a page on the site.

“The MCD’s Facebook page will be launched tomorrow (Wednesday). The main idea behind joining a social networking site is to monitor cleanliness and garbage removal in the city and to interact directly with citizens,” a MCD official said.

One can upload pictures, videos or file a complaint about sanitation in their area which will be addressed immediately, he said.

There are a total of 2,500 garbage dumps under MCD’s jurisdiction and these will be listed on its Facebook page.

“Apart from garbage disposal issues, MCD officials can also interact with residents directly and give a quick solution to their civic woes which they would post on the Facebook page,” the official said.
