D.R. Horton, J.M. Smucker, Dell are big movers

NEW YORK — The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Friday on the New York Stock Exchange:

NYSE:

Dillard’s Inc., up $1.38 at $15.66

An analyst upgraded the stock to “buy” and said efforts to cut costs and improve merchandise are paying off.

D.R. Horton Inc., down $1.88 at $10.37

The homebuilder’s wider-than-anticipated quarterly loss fueled by write-downs offset news that its new home orders spike 26 percent from a year ago.

J.M. Smucker Co., up $2.87 at $56.35

The company nearly tripled its profit on the addition of Folgers coffee and lower commodity prices that fattened its profit margins.

Griffon Corp., up $1.15 at $10.20

The communications and electronic information, building products and specialty plastics business posted a fiscal fourth-quarter profit.

NASDAQ:

ADC Telecommunications Inc., down 73 cents at $5.91

The company posted a net loss in the fourth quarter and warned that first-quarter earnings will come in lower than expected.

Bon-Ton Stores Inc., up 41 cents at $13.07

Fitch Ratings raised its outlook for the department store operator from “negative” to “stable,” citing its reworked credit agreement.

Dell Inc., down $1.58 at $14.29

The computer company reported a 54 percent drop in net income and a 15 percent decline in revenue, both steeper than analysts expected.

Aruba Networks Inc., down 64 cents at $8.94

The company reported fiscal first-quarter results above expectations, but it may not have been as much of a beat as Wall Street hoped.
