Stereotaxis gets FDA approval for catheter that uses magnetism to treat irregular heartbeat

Stereotaxis says FDA clears magnetic catheter

ST. LOUIS — Medical device maker Stereotaxis Inc. said Tuesday it received regulatory approval for a catheter that is used to treat irregular heartbeats.

The Food and Drug Administration approved the company’s Celsius RMT ThermoCool catheter. The catheter contains magnets that are used to destroy unhealthy tissue, allowing the heart to return to a normal rhythm. The catheter was approved in Europe in October 2009.

The catheter was developed by Stereotaxis and Biosense Webster of Diamond Bar, Calif.
