Obama pushes $30 billion in small business aid

NASHUA, N.H. — President Barack Obama is pushing his plan to offer $30 billion to local banks in the hope they start lending money to small businesses.

Obama on Tuesday outlined details of the plan he included in last week’s State of the Union address. The president says the money will help small businesses add employees and lower the high unemployment rate.

Earlier Obama toured a small business. He says community banks will keep small businesses the “engine of job growth in America.”

The president also took a swipe at his political opponents, saying Republicans need to work with Democrats. He says the GOP is playing politics, going so far as to vote last week against a financial commission they initially introduced.
