AIG, SanDisk, Shanda Games, HSBC are big movers

NEW YORK — Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Monday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE:

American International Group Inc., up $1.01 at $25.78

Prudential PLC said it will buy the Asian unit of the bailed out insurer, allowing AIG to pay back some money it owes U.S. taxpayers.

Millipore Corp., up $10.49 at $104.90

An analyst raised his price target after Germany’s Merck KGaA said it will pay $6 billion in cash to buy the biotech equipment maker.

Dillard’s Inc., up $3.16 at $20.03

Though sales dropped 10 percent, the department store operator was able to significantly lower costs and inventory to post a profit.

MSCI Inc., down $1.39 at $28.59

MSCI agreed to buy RiskMetrics Group Inc. for about $1.55 billion in a cash and stock deal.

HSBC Holdings PLC, down $3.34 at $51.58

Europe’s largest bank said full-year profit rose as sharply lower operating costs helped offset an increase in loan impairment charges.

NASDAQ:

OSI Pharmaceuticals Inc., up $19.23 at $56.25

Astellas Pharma Inc. plans to take an acquisition offer directly to shareholders after being rebuffed several times by executives.

Shanda Games Ltd., down $1.46 at $6.81

The online game operator projected disappointing first-quarter sales, which an analyst said came in “deeply below expectations.”

SanDisk Corp., up $3.48 at $32.63

The flash memory card maker raised its first-quarter revenue outlook and got at least one analyst upgrade.
