BANGALORE - Microsoft India, which has a development centre in Hyderabad, expanded its product development operations to this tech hub, the company said Thursday.

The Bangalore facility will focus on product development and applied research in web search and online advertising, with over 200 employees, Microsoft vice president for online services division (OSD) Satya Nadella told reporters here.

Majority of the employees has joined from Yahoo! as part of Microsoft-Yahoo! search alliance.

The combined skills and talent of our OSD team at Hyderabad and the Yahoo! employees who joined us in Bangalore will enhance India’s contribution to our innovation charter inclusive of Microsoft Bing and Microsoft adCentre, Nadella said.

Innovations from the Hyderabad facility are making a significant impact on Microsoft products in use across Australia, Britain, Canada and the US.

Post-transition, both the companies’ unified search marketplace will deliver cutting edge software solutions to advertisers and better monetization opportunities to web publishers.

Our development centre has become a destination for the best and the brightest talent in India. Yahoo! engineers will strengthen our talent base. The Hyderabad facility will continue to work for our lines of business, while the Bangalore centre will focus on R&D in search and online advertising technologies, Microsoft India managing director Srini Koppolu said.

As Microsoft’s top research and development centre outside its Redmond lab in the US, the Indian subsidiary significantly contributes to innovation, with 1,500 engineers doing global product engineering for its customers.
