Paradip port handled record traffic in 2009-10

BHUBANESWAR - Despite global meltdown and slow export and import business the Paradip port in Orissa handled record traffic of 57.01 million tonnes during 2009-10, an official said here Wednesday.

“It was a growth of 22.84 percent over the previous years 46.41 million tonnes, the port trust chairman K. Raghuramaiah told reporters at a press conference here.

The average growth of all major ports in the country during 2009-2010 was 5.74 percent and the Paradip port has achieved the highest growth rate amongst all the major ports, he said.

The major commodities handled by the port included 16.16 million tonnes of iron ore and 14.82 million tonnes of thermal coal, he said.

Paradip port, located in the district of Jagatsinghpur, some 100 km from here, is one of the major ports in india.
