Recalls: exercise benches, hooded sweatshirts

The following recalls have been announced:

—About 33,000 Nordic Track Revitalize, Gold’s Gym and Weider Club inversion benches, made in China and distributed by ICON Health & Fitness Inc. of Logan, Utah. The recalled product’s ankle clamp can release unexpectedly or the strap used to limit rotation can break, posing a fall hazard to consumers. ICON Health & Fitness has received 75 reports of incidents of the strap breaking or the ankle clamp releasing, including 23 injuries, some to the head and neck. The inversion systems include a frame with a backrest, headrest and leg clamp assembly. They were sold at sporting good stores, Wal-Mart, Sears and other retailers nationwide from April 2008 through February 2009. Details: by phone at 866-506-9095; on the Web at www.cpsc.gov.

—About 20,000 buoyancy compensators used in scuba diving. The products, made in the U.S. by Ocean Management Systems Inc. of Middletown, N.Y., are being recalled because their seal ring could crack, posing a drowning hazard to divers. No incidents or injuries have been reported. The recalled buoyancy compensators provide flotation control for scuba divers by allowing them to inflate or deflate the devices. They were sold in black or red and have “OMS” printed on their front inside. They were sold at dive stores nationwide from May 2006 through August 2008. Details: by phone at 877-791-0315; on the Web at www.cpsc.gov.

—About 2,400 children’s hooded sweatshirts with drawstrings, made in China by Gogo Sports Inc. of San Francisco, because the hood drawstrings can pose a strangulation hazard to children. No incidents or injuries have been reported. The recalled sweatshirts have sewn-in neck tags that read “Gogo Sports” and city names are printed across the front of the garments. They were sold at clothing retail stores in California, Colorado, Hawaii and New Mexico from January 2008 through December. Details: by phone at 877-785-1915; on the Web at www.cpsc.gov.
