BWA Auction: Infotel Wins

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- With the BWA auction coming to an end, Infotel has emerged to be the Pan India winner at the auction. Reportedly, the bids for pan-India license reached a total sum of Rs. 12,850 crore. The BWA Auction had the government pulling a total revenue of Rs. 38,543.31 crore.

The provisional results for the BWA auction were announced by DoT (Department of Telecommunications). It included the biggies in the telecom market like Reliance Wimax Ltd, Vodafone Essar and Idea Cellular along Tata Communication. Above all it was Infotel Broadband Services which managed to win the bid for all 22 available circles. Apart from Infotel Broadband Services, the BWA Auction also witnessed Aircel winning 8 circles, Tikona Digital Networks winning over 5 circles while both Airtel and Qualcomm managed to win their bids over 4 circles.

BSNL and MTNL which happens to be the state operators are the only one who have already got the spectrum. Quite evidently they shall enjoy an upperhand over all private networks who had participated in the BWA Auction. Along with Infotel Broadband Services, the other leading players in the telecom market who had taken apart in the BWA Auction included Bharti Airtel, Augere Mauritius, Vodafone Essar, Reliance Wimax Ltd, Idea Cellular, Aircel, Spice Internet Service Provider, Qualcomm, Tikona Digital Networks and Tata Communications. As declared by the International Telecommunication Union BWA shall offer a download speed not less than 100 mbps (Mega Bytes Per Second) up till 1 gbps (GigaBytes Per Second). As per the lab conditions, the total download speed as recorded is said to have been 70 mbps. Both MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd) as well as BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) shall have to pay the matching amount to secure their winning bid in their circles.
