SHARJAH (GaeaTimes.com)- Canara Bank which is the third biggest bank of India as far as domestic operations are concerned has opened its first representative office in the Middle East in Sharjah. It is looking forward to expand in the UAE in the coming days in a big way. The bank’s global presence may not be huge but it has not shown loss in its existence which dates back to a century, which is definitely commendable. The MD and Chairman of the bank A C Mahajan confirmed the opening of the new branches overseas to a media entity.

The MD of Canara Bank also said that while the bank is eying overseas expansion it has its core mottos in place. The investments the customers have made are safe and the interests of businesses are protected. He bank has more than 37 million customers in India and has a network of 3043 branches with 2000 ATMs nationwide. It has 5 percent of market share in the country. The government of India has 73 percent ownership stake in the bank. This is a guarantee for those who want to do business with the bank as the MD feels. It became the only bank from India to start a representative office in Sharjah which is commendable.

Canara Bank also has plans to start business in places like Dubai. It is also trying to start operations in countries like Qatar and Bahrain. The MD of the bank said that apart from increasing its revenue the bank has also paid importance to the corporate social responsibilities it has.
