Homebuilder, entrepreneur Shea dies in Calif

SAN MARINO, Calif. — Property developer and entrepreneur Edmund Shea Jr., who co-founded building giant Shea Homes, has died.

Spokesman Aaron Curtiss says the 80-year-old Shea died Friday of pulmonary fibrosis at his hime in San Marino, Calif.

In the late 1960s, Shea helped establish the construction company that would become Shea Homes, one of the nation’s largest privately owned for-profit home builders.

A decade earlier, he and other family members co-founded J. F. Shea Construction, a tunneling company that worked on subways in Washington, San Francisco and New York.

As a venture capitalist, Shea made early investments in such companies as Adobe Systems Inc., Activision Blizzard Inc. and Compaq.
