CPSC, importers recall of mood rings due to lead

WASHINGTON — “Love Tester” mood rings and necklaces are being recalled because of high levels of lead in the jewelry, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and distributors announced Wednesday.

The commission said in a news release Wednesday that people should stop using the items immediately and take them back to where they were purchased for a refund or replacement.

No injuries have been reported.

D&D Distributing-Wholesale Inc., of Tacoma, Wash. had imported the items, which were made in China. There were 19,000 rings and 4,000 necklaces sold in stores nationwide from September 2005 through June. Each item cost about $4.

Shoppers can call the company’s hotline at (800) 262-9435.
