RANCHI - In Jharkhand, only 28.08 per cent sowing has taken place this year, the state government said Tuesday.

The entire state has been declared drought affected.

The agriculture department presented a report on the drought situation at an all party meeting here, which was attended by Chief Minister Arjun Munda. The report said only 28.08 per cent sowing had taken place due to poor rainfall.

The meeting stressed the need for expediting the relief work in the state. It was decided that an all party delegation will soon meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and apprise him about the drought situation and demand relief package for the state.

“We convened the all party meeting to know the ground situation and expedite the relief work. Jharkhand belongs to all parties and it is duty of all parties to take interest in the relief work of the state,” Munda told reporters.
