MUMBAI - President Pratibha Patil will Oct 28 confer the Jamnalal Bajaj awards for the year 2010, an official here said Monday.

“These annual awards are given out to recognise and suitably honour the efforts of the men and women who have dedicated their life to Gandhian constructive work and the ideals which Jamnalal Bajaj had cherished all his life,” said Madhur Bajaj, trustee of the foundation.

Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation was established in 1977 in the memory of Jamnalal Bajaj, a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi.

Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan will preside over the function while Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal will be the guests of honour.

Also present at the occasion will be chairman of the Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation Rahul Bajaj and Dr. P.C. Alexander, chairman, council of advisors of the Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation.

The foundation has instituted four awards which are given annually — contribution in the field of constructive work, contribution in the field of science and technology for rural development, contribution in the development and welfare of women and children, and international award for promoting Gandhian values outside India.
