NEW DELHI/BANGALORE - Leading private carrier Kingfisher Airlines cancelled its flight Monday from London to New Delhi as the aircraft was held up in Brussels due to heavy snow.

The London-New Delhi flight (IT 002) had to be cancelled due to non-availability of aircraft, which is held up at Brussels airport due to severe bad weather, the airline said in a statement.

Passengers booked on the cancelled flight were told not to go to Heathrow airport as operations were suspended due to heavy snowfall.

Even passengers on board the New Delhi-London flight (IT 007) were stranded at Brussels as the aircraft could not fly to Heathrow Sunday.

“The stranded passengers will be taken by surface transport to London late Monday, subject to clearance by the immigration authorities, the statement added.

Major Indian carriers Sunday announced the cancellation of their flights to and from London following the closure of London’s Heathrow airport due to heavy snow.

Holiday plans of thousands of people across Europe have been thrown into disarray after many places on the continent were severely affected by heavy snowfall.

Travellers wanting to fly to Britain have been advised not to plan holidays now by many airlines which said they could not guarantee they would be able to land due to the massive snowfall.
