Onion prices fall in Nashik, Azadpur: Government

NEW DELHI - The government Tuesday said its decision to ban onion exports till Jan 15 had started yielding results, with wholesale prices falling in Nasik in Maharashtra and at the Azadpur market in Delhi.
“The wholesale prices of onion both in Nasik markets (Lasalgaon, Pimpalgaon and Manmad) in Maharastra and Azadpur market have declined by 35 percent and 13 percent respectively,” the agriculture ministry said.
It said this followed the government’s decision to to suspend giving licences for export of onion.
It added that onion arrivals reached 17,100 quintals Tuesday, compared to 14,453 quintals a day earlier, at Nashik.
Besides, the prices in Nashik fell from Rs.5,600 per quintal Monday to Rs.3,600 a quintal Tuesday.
The statement said arrivals at the Azadpur wholesale market here had increased by 1,500 quintals to 8,100 quintals Tuesday. The Azadpur prices slipped from Rs.5,250 per 100 kg to Rs.4,600 a quintal Tuesday.
