Sensex ends dull, broader markets hit by profit booking

MUMBAI - A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Monday closed on a dull note after trading in a tightly bound range all day. Broader markets, however, fell on profit booking.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,911.43 points, closed at 18,901.45 points (provisional) — up 41.01 points or 0.22 percent from its previous close at 18,860.44 points.

The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange nudged higher, ending 7.7 points or 0.14 percent up at 5,662.25 points.

Broader markets closed in the red, with the BSE midcap index closing 1.42 percent up and the BSE smallcap index ending 1.49 percent lower.
