CHANDIGARH - Ethiopia has expressed interest in Haryana’s concept of Industrial Model Township (IMT) and has sought its cooperation for the development of similar projects and food parks in the east African country, an official said here Wednesday.

A spokesman of the Haryana government said that a high-level Ethiopian delegation led by Development Bank of Ethiopia president Esayas Bahire Gebremeskel visited the IMT at Manesar, some 50 km from Delhi, to get a first hand idea of the “world-class” industrial infrastructure developed in Haryana.

“The Ethiopian delegation appreciated the concept of Industrial Model Township and infrastructure created by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) at IMT-Manesar,” he said.

“The Ethiopian delegation sought cooperation between the two sides for the development of similar projects, particularly food parks in their country,” he said.

Haryana has attracted industrial investment to the tune of millions of dollars in the National Capital Region (NCR) belt, especially in the Gurgaon-Manesar-Bawal area of the state.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had met diplomats of African countries in New Delhi last month to discuss possibilities of joint agri-business relations with them.
