Paradip Port sets record in manual iron ore handling

BHUBANESWAR - Orissa’s Paradip Port has created a record by loading 43,100 tonnes of iron ore within a period of 24 hours by manual handling onto a vessel for export, a port official said Tuesday.

The loading to the China-bound vessel MV Nikolas was done by ACE Commercial Company Pvt Ltd Monday, the port’s public relations officer Niranjan Kar told IANS.

The previous record was 34,100 tonnes of iron ore, which was loaded to a vessel in the port Dec 22, 2009, he said.

Paradip in Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district, some 100 km from here, is one of the major ports of India serving the eastern and central parts of the country.

In 2009-2010, 16.137 million tonnes of iron ore was exported from the port, mostly to China.
