Railway collects Rs.52 crore from ticketless travellers

NEW DELHI - In a special drive lunched to check ticketless travelling, Northern Railway fined 12.97 lakh passengers and collected a sum of Rs.52.24 crore from April to November this year, an official said.

Also, 425 passengers were apprehended for travelling on someone else’s name.

“We had launched the drive for April to November period but seeing the response, we will continue it during the winter vacations also,” said Northern Railway spokesperson A.S. Negi.

For the same period last year, Northern Railway collected Rs.43.81 crore from 10.77 lakh passengers and had apprehended 271 people for travelling on someone else’s names.

Northern Railway region encompasses Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and parts of Haryana.
