HAMILTON - As many as 32,573 Indian nationals obtained visitor visas during 2008-09 for New Zealand which has topped a survey of tourism organisations from around the world to rank the best destination brands, says official data released Friday.
The data released by the tourism ministry, meanwhile, said spending by foreign visitors in New Zealand touched $6.1 billion up to September this year despite a decline in international arrivals.
Bruce Bassett, ministry of tourism research manager, said: This increase is a good result given the 1.8 percent decline in international arrivals over the period.
The past year covers the full duration of the global economic downturn, so to come through that period with a positive spend result is a very credible achievement.
“It reflects an industry that has responded effectively to the challenges through changing market focus, honing business practices and stimulating demand.
