SAIL’s Bhilai unit records best ever performance

RAIPUR - The Bhilai Steel Plant, a flagship unit of the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), Sunday said it has recorded the best ever performance in the last nine months.
“The plant has recorded its best ever total sinter production of 5.64 million tonnes (MT) as against the previous best of 5.59 MT in corresponding period last year (CPLY). The ore handling plant handled a record 11.84 MT of material as against the previous best of 11.62 MT in CPLY,” a company statement said.
The Bhilai steel plant in Durg district, about 30 km west of Chhattisgarh capital Raipur, recorded its best ever saleable steel dispatch figures in the first three quarters of the current fiscal.
“The Bhilai plant is headed for yet another record performance in hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel production in fiscal 2009-10,” Bhilai Steel Plant Managing Director R. Ramaraju said.
The plant’s blast furnaces recorded best-ever hot metal production of 4.12 MT as against the previous best of 4.03 MT in CPLY while it has recorded its highest crude steel production of 3.92 MT for the period as against the previous best of 3.87 MT.
The Bhilai plant had seen a record production in fiscal year 2008-09 as it produced 5.4 million tonnes of hot metal, 5.2 million tonnes of crude steel and 4.5 million tonnes of saleable steel.
