BHUBANESWAR - The Paradip port authorities in Orissa Thursday said it has achieved 50 million tonnes of cargo in terms of traffic handling this year, up by 27 percent compared to last year.
“Despite global slowdown as well as reduced export and import in the country, Paradip port has attained this milestone,” the port’s deputy chairman Biplav Kumar told IANS.
“The cargo traffic handling was up by 27.06 per cent as of today (Jan 1-Feb 18) compared to the cargo traffic of the corresponding period of the last year,” he said.
“The growth is the highest amongst all the major ports during the current financial year,” he said.
Besides, the port has also achieved fifth place in terms of total cargo handled among the major and non-major ports in the country, he said.
“We are expecting to achieve 57 million tones of cargo handling at Paradip Port during the current financial year 2009-10,” he said.
