Russian truck maker to open facility in India

Moscow, Feb 18 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russia’s largest truck maker firm Kamaz will open its Indian assembly plant Friday with a manufacturing capacity of 5,000 vehicles annually.

“The joint venture has been established using the production facilities of Indian Vectra Group, which is a Kamaz partner,” the company said in a statement Thursday.

“In March 2009, the partners signed an agreement on the alliance and on the joint venture, Kamaz Vectra Motors Limited, with designed capacity of 5,000 vehicles per year,” the statement said.

Initially, the facility will roll out several right-hand steering wheeled truck models using the Kamaz-6540 chassis, and also Kamaz-5460 mainline prime movers, it said.

The company, which has 96 plants in Russia, Poland, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Vietnam and Ethiopia, produces more than 30 models of commercial vehicles.
