Punjab gets new mega-thermal plant

RAJPURA - Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal laid the foundation stone of a 1,320 MW mega-thermal power plant, consisting of two units of 660 MW each, here Tuesday.

The Rs.9,000-crore mega-thermal project, which is spread over an area of 1,080 acres, has been designed and developed by engineering and construction company Larson and Turbo at village Nalash in Rajpura, about 40 km from state capital Chandigarh.

“Our continuous efforts in the field of power generation will give fruitful results in the coming years. We are all set to double the power generation in the state from the present 6,900 MW to nearly 14,000 MW in the next couple of years,” said Badal after inaugurating the plant.

He added: “This upcoming thermal plant would further boost the prospects of overall development and growth in the region and also generate tremendous employment potential in the state.”
