GMR completes land acquisition for Chhattisgarh project

RAIPUR - GMR Energy, a unit of GMR Infrastructure, has completed land acquisition for its Rs.8,000-crore coal-fired power project in Chhattisgarh, a company spokesperson said Thursday.
“The company has completed land acquisition and is waiting for the coal-linkage to build two units of 685 MW each with supercritical technology that will cost Rs.8,000 crore,” the spokesperson told IANS.
She said the project needed 850 acres for the main plant. The government had provided 422 acres and the company had acquired 428 acres.
GMR Energy had signed an agreement with the Chhattisgarh government in 2007 to set up the plant at Raikheda, some 35 km from the state capital Raipur. But the work on the project has been delayed due to various reasons, including firming up the coal-linkage.
“The project is awaiting the coal linkage, we expect this to be completed with the next two months. However, preliminary work such as fencing at the site has commenced,” she added.
The spokesperson said the power plant will get water from the Mahanadi river, some 40 km from the plant site.
