GHAZIABAD - In a bid to ease traffic congestion in the national capital region (NCR) before the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, all major connecting roads, including highways, will be widened, an official said Saturday.

Surface Transport Secretary Brahm Dutt inspected the areas along with officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and ordered completion of all documentation formalities, including invitation of tenders, within 15 days so that the ground level work could be initiated in July itself.

Briefing mediapersons here, District Magistrate Hirdyesh Kumar said that National Highway (NH)-24 from Nizamuddin to Dasna would be made into an eight-lane highway in the first phase and to 14 lanes in the second phase. The NH-24 from Dasna to Hapur, which currently has four lanes, would be made a six-lane highway.

Five under-passes would be constructed between UP Gate and Lal Kuan for which Rs.277 crore has been sanctioned, he said.

To expedite work on eastern peripheral expressway from Dasna to Meerut, a survey is being conducted. A three member team of officials from state revenue department and NHAI would submit its report within 15 days to present a module on how to expedite the work.

The NH-58 would be made into six lanes from Meerut road tri-junction to Modinagar. NH-91 would be made four lanes from Lal Kuan to Bulandshahr.
