KANPUR - Hailing public-private partnership as the key to many success stories, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday emphasized the need for promoting the arrangement to enhance the rate of growth of the country.

Speaking at the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of noted industrialist Kamlapati Singhania at the Merchants’ Chamber of Uttar Pradesh here, he said: “our target is to now take the nation’s growth to double digits.”

Referring to the inauguration of the new terminal at the Delhi airport earlier this (Saturday) morning, he said: “The transformation of Delhi airport into a world class aerodrome is the latest example of success of public-private partnership in the country.”

Complimenting the industry for successfully withstanding the odds over the past two years, Singh said: “We have been able to tide over the forces of recession, which could not cause as much harm to our economy as it did to several other nations.”

While stressing upon the need for further cooperation and collaboration between the public and private sectors, the prime minister said: “We have done exceedingly well on most counts including savings and investments.”

“Even on the international fora, our voice is now heard because everyone knows we cannot be ignored,” he said.
