Three drown in Punjab floods, death toll at six

MOHALI - Three teenagers were washed away by strong currents at Mullanpur village in this district Thursday, taking the toll due to the floods in Punjab to six, police said.

“Deepak Kumar, Sanjay Kumar and Navneet Singh died after getting washed away by the currents in the morning. They were in the age-group of 15 to 17 years. Their bodies were recovered in the afternoon,” Vijay Kumar, a police officer, told IANS.

Two men had died of drowning and a 20-year-old man was electrocuted while draining out water from his house Wednesday in Lalru district.

Two people in Ludhiana district are missing after getting swept away by flood waters.

“We have alerted our officials to keep an eye on the situation. They are disseminating information about how to deal with the prevailing flood-like situation in the region,” Mohali deputy commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand, told IANS.

So far, at least 11 people have been killed by drowning or electrocution in the flood-affected areas of Punjab and Haryana.
