MOHALI - Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the new campus of the Indian School of Business (ISB) here. It would be ISB’s second campus outside Hyderabad.

The construction of the first phase of the campus is expected to be completed by February 2012 and the first batch of 210 students will join in April.

“This is an extremely important day for ISB. We can call it the second phase of ISB’s journey that was started around 10 years ago. We are doing something that is of great importance to the nation,” ISB Dean Ajit Rangnekar told reporters.

The ISB campus that is coming up at Knowledge City in Sector 80 will also house four institutes focusing on different areas.

“These are institutes, which are more than any centre of excellence and they will promote both education and research in their respective fields. These institutes are set up with contribution of Rs.50 crore each, from the founding supporters of the ISB campus at Mohali,” said Rangnekar.

The four institutes are Max India Institute of Healthcare Management, Bharti Institute of Public Policy, BML Munjal Hero Honda Institute of Manufacturing Excellence and Innovation, and Punj Lloyd Institute of Physical Infrastructure Management.

Badal expressed happiness over the coming of a world class business school to Punjab.

“This is a red letter day in the history of Punjab. Leading business groups of international repute are involved in this venture. This is our another step forward in the direction of becoming education hub of the country,” said Badal.

ISB Mohali campus is proposed to spread over 70 acres. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art learning facilities like lecture theatres, a 500-seater auditorium and student and faculty housing.

Mohali is around 10 km from Chandigarh.
