Chhattisgarh registers record growth rate

RAIPUR - Chhattisgarh registered the highest growth rate among all Indian states in the 2009-10 fiscal, a government statement here said Saturday.

“Chhattisgarh has left all other states behind and emerged as the top ranked state in fiscal year 2009-10 in terms of GDP (gross state domestic product) growth rate with 11.49 percent,” a state government statement said, quoting New Delhi-based Central Statistical Organisation data released recently.

It added that Chhattisgarh’s growth rate is far ahead than the second ranked Gujarat having 10.53 percent, Uttarakhand 9.41 percent, Maharashtra 8.59 percent, Orissa 8.35 percent and Bihar 4.72 percent in fiscal year 2009-10.

The statement also claimed that Chhattisgarh has registered an average growth rate of 10.9 percent in the past five years while its average per capita income in 2009-10 was estimated to be Rs.34,483.
