US curbs disturbing, but have no immediate impact: Nasscom

BANGALORE - India’s IT sector apex organisation has urged the United states to give up “regressive steps” like banning outsourcing and instead concentrate on creation of jobs.
The recent US moves are “disturbing but will not have any immediate impact” on Indian firms, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) Chairman Som Mittal told reporters on the margins of an industry meet here.
Mittal said he hoped “the US makes more positive investments to create jobs, become competitive, rather than taking regressive action which will lead to protectionist measures around the world.”
Recently, the Ohio state banned offshoring by government departments.
U.S. President Barack Obama has supported the decision and has also been frequently slamming outsourcing by American companies.
These moves follow increase H-1B and L1 visa fees, sought after by Indian professionals and IT companies.
Mittal said there would be more noise on outsourcing because of the mid-term elections to the Senate and House of Representatives.
“We do not know in what form or shape it would be”, he added.
