Fairy Queen heritage train begins trips again next month

NEW DELHI - Fairy Queen, the world’s oldest working steam engine, is ready to haul a popular heritage train from Delhi to Sariska National Park in Rajasthan once again beginning Oct 23, the railway ministry said Thursday.
A great attraction among steam engine lovers across the globe, the Fairy Queen train will run from Delhi Cantonment railway station in New Delhi to the national park in Alwar district of Rajasthan between Oct 23, 2010 and March 12, 2011, the ministry said in a statement.
But before the start of its regular service, the Northern Railway plans to have its additional run Oct 9 during the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games.
The Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) has worked out a comprehensive two-day package for heritage tourism, the release said.
The full package would include on-ground catering, boarding, lodging, transfer facilities, visit to Sariska National Park and a cultural programme show, it said.
The train would depart from Delhi on day one at 9 a.m. and reach Alwar at 3 p.m. the same day, the release said adding the passengers would be lodged in Hotel “Tiger Den” at Sariska.
On day two, the train will depart from Alwar at 1 p.m. to reach Delhi at 6.45 p.m. the same day. It will stop for 10 minutes each at Garhi Harasuru, Pataudi Road, Rewari, Ajarka and Khairthal stations during the journey.
The RTDC has fixed a tariff of Rs.10,200 per adult and Rs.5,100 per child for full package, while the journey between Delhi and Alwar with sight seeing and stay at Sariska National Park would cost Rs.7,100 per adult and Rs.3,550 per child.
A one-way train journey between Delhi and Alwar would cost Rs.3,200 per adult and Rs.1,600 per child, the release added.
It said the train will make about two trips per month with the first trip commencing Oct 23. The subsequent trips have been scheduled for Nov 13 and 27, Dec 11 and 25, Jan 8 and 22, 2011, Feb 12 and 26 and March 12.
