State-run firms to import 4.13 lakh tonne of pulses 2010-11

NEW DELHI - Various state-run trading firms have inked pacts to import 4.13 lakh tonnes of pulses in 2010-11, said the ministry for consumer affairs, food and public distribution Wednesday.

The firms, which have signed the contract for importing altogether 4.13 lakh tonnes of pulses among them, included PEC, STC, MMTC and NCCF, said a ministry release.

It added that out of the contracted quantum for import, 2.11 lakh tonne of pulses have already arrived with the various public sector enterprises disposing off 1.35 lakh tonnes from their stocks for distribution.

The release said as on Sep 16, 1.12 lakh tonnes of pulses have been supplied to Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab for distribution under the public distribution system (PDS).

In 2009-10, these companies had supplied 2,50,776 tonnes of imported pulses to these states for distribution through PDS.
