CHENNAI - Production at Foxconn India’s plant near here making mobile phone accessories resumed Saturday evening despite the Foxconn India Thozilalar Sangam (FITS) having given a strike call Friday.

The FITS is affiliated to the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU).

Speaking to IANS, a company official said on the condition of anonymity: “Production has resumed from second shift, but few workers have come for duty.”

He said the FITS members stopped company buses and asked the employees to get down.

Fearing violence, many got down and returned home, he said, adding: “We have made a complaint to the police about such intimidation.”

The FITS had Thursday night called for strike demanding payment of wages to workers who had earlier struck work and asking the management to carry out wage negotiations.

Foxconn India is one of the major vendors for Nokia India.
