Services resume at Kashmere Gate bus terminus

NEW DELHI - The usually busy Kashmere Gate Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) resumed its services Saturday after these were hit owing to waterlogging in the complex. The terminus was running its operations from a make-shift place for the past three days.

“It was a messy ad-hoc makeshift system in place outside the complex on the Ring Road. Although the complex is a lot dirtier owing to the sewage, dirt and muck accumulating on the floor of the complex but it is still better,” said Ved Pal Singh, a bus conductor.

For three days, bus operators were running into losses after they were forced out of the ISBT complex due to waterlogging. The make shift arrangements had become a hassle for the bus operators, passengers, and the motorists driving on the Ring Road, since vehicular movement on the road had been slowed down by inter-state buses.

Puran Chand, station supervisor, said: “There are pools of dirty water around. The stench is unbearable and passengers are still not returning in the usual numbers.”

Preparations are on to clean up the complex before Sunday — as the day brings more business.

“We may be able to recover some of the huge losses that we suffered during the past few days, by giving a good show tomorrow (Sunday),” said Ram Bhaj, president of Haryana Roadways Workers Union.
