Chhattisgarh’s new 660 MW plant to start by December

RAIPUR - The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) will commission the first of three 660 MW of units of a new power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sipat village by December, the corporation said here Saturday.
“The first 660 MW of the total 1,980 MW Sipat expansion project of the NTPC will be commissioned by December while the second unit by March 2011,” the release said.
Two units of the Sipat plant in the states Bilaspur district produce 1,000 MW and as part of its expansion plan, the company plans to generate 1,980 MW additional power with three units of 660 MW each.
Sipat units will be the first in the country to operate on super-critical boilers that burn less fuel to produce electricity as compared to the conventional boilers.
The NTPC has agreed to set up its regional office in Chhattisgarh’s Naya Raipur - which will replace Raipur as capital of the state.
