NEW YORK - Mercedes-Benz is recalling over 85,000 vehicles in the US and 22,000 in Britain due to steering problems, a media report said.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the problem has to do with the vehicles’ power steering system, which “may fail due to the loss of power steering fluid”, Sky News reported.

“Owners may not have sufficient control of the vehicle in areas, such as parking lots, where maximum power steering is required, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash,” a statement said.

In the US, 2010 Mercedes C-Class and 2010 and 2011 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet models, and in Britain, C-Class saloon and estate models, and E-Class saloon, estate, coupe and convertible models built between June 2009 and February 2010 would be recalled.

Mercedes dealers will check the vehicles and make necessary adjustments free of charge.
