MALAPPURAM - The South Indian Bank (SIB) Friday created history in the banking sector by opening 30 branches and 40 ATM centres across the country on a single day, a bank official here said.

The Thrissur-headquartered SIB, with 610 branches, also exceeded 1,000 banking outlets with more than 400 ATM centres.

The branches were opened by south Indian superstar Mammootty, global brand ambassador of the bank, at a special function held at Malappuram coinciding with the opening of the branches and the ATMs across the country.

Our objective was to provide more innovative products and convenient services to every one including the Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), said V.A. Joseph, managing director and chief executive officer of the bank.

SIB recently became the first bank in the country to obtain an ISO certification exclusively for credit processing. It has an ambitious growth plan and has targeted business worth Rs.750 billion (Rs.75,000 crore), 7,500 employees and 750 branches by 2013.
