RAIPUR - Chhattisgarh farmers are all set to earn Rs.5,000 crore during the 2010-11 paddy procurement season starting November, the state government said Friday.
The state government will procure paddy Nov 1, 2010-Jan 31, 2011 from farmers at Rs.1,000 per quintal rate for common grade paddy and Rs.1,030 per quintal for Grade-A category paddy, a statement said.
The state has experienced a good monsoon this year and the government has set a target of procuring five million tonnes paddy as against the purchase of 4.4 million tonnes paddy in 2009-10, the statement added.
“In 2009-10 kharif procurement season, we paid farmers a total of Rs.4,700 crore. Since a bumper paddy production is expected this year, we have set a target of procuring paddy of at least Rs.5,000 crore,” an agriculture department official said.
The government will set up 1,578 procurement centres across the state that will buy paddy from farmers in all the 18 districts. Chhattisgarh is a major paddy growing state in the country.
