Tata Teleservices Q2 net profit falls 9 percent

MUMBAI - Telecom service provider Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Ltd. (TTML) Monday reported a second quarter net profit of Rs.97.0 crore, a decline of 9 percent, compared to the Rs.107.9 crore net profit in the corresponding period last year.
The total income of the company rose by 7 percent at Rs.576 crore, against Rs.538 crore in the corresponding period last year, a statement said here Monday.
The net sales stood at Rs.557 crore, compared to Rs.498 crore last year.
However, since the company commenced its GSM operations in August 2009, the current quarter’s figures were not comparable to last year’s, the statement said.
The operator crossed the 80 million subscribers mark in September, by adding 2.14 million users in the month.
It showed a subscriber growth rate of more than 100 percent in the last 12 months, but its average revenue per user (ARPU) was affected due to a tariff war, analysts said.
TTML won the third generation (3G) spectrum in Maharashtra circle, including Goa but excluding Mumbai, and capitalised related licence fees, aggregating Rs.1,257 crore, during the period.
The company will amortise licence fees on commencement of its 3G operations, the statement added.
