Delhi now to phase out over 300 RTVs

NEW DELHI - After the ‘killer’ Blueline buses, the Delhi government now wants to phase out more than 300 “dangerous” RTVs - rural transport vehicles - from the city roads.
“The RTVs are dangerous vehicles. There are over 300 RTVs in the capital and we are planning to replace these with mini-buses,” Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely told reporters.
Lovely said the transport department has been asked to frame a policy in this regard. The government wants to phase out the service as soon as possible, he said.
According to a transport department official, the RTVs will be replaced by mini-buses to provide safety and comfort to daily commuters.
The official said the routes will be extended compared to the existing routes of the RTVs.
RTVs are feeder buses being run in parts of the capital to ferry passengers covering short distances.
The Blueline buses, blamed for hundreds of deaths on the the city roads over a decade, will be banished completely by Dec 14 following a decision of the city government.
