BANGALORE - Wipros global IT services division won a five-year contract to provide end-to-end services to British power firm Electricity North West, the company said Friday.
“The strategic partnership envisages delivery of transformational services to maintain North Wests IT systems through a managed service framework,” Wipro energy and utilities vice-president Anand Padmanabhan said in a statement here.
North West operates power distribution network across Britain’s north-west region.
As part of the deal, Wipro will set up data centres and configure virtualised infrastructure, migrate and upgrade applications supporting its clients business.
“We will also leverage our global remote infrastructure management to provide a fully managed IT services,” Padmanabhan said.
With Wipro managing its IT operations, North West will focus on its core competency of energy distribution by terminating the service arrangement with a third party.
“With competency and mature global delivery model, Wipro is our supplier of choice to enable our IT separation and support our business strategy over the next five years,” North West chief information officer Andy Funnell said.
The deal also underscores Wipros leadership in the energy and utilities space in the British market.
“The deal extends our footprint in the British energy and utilities industry, positioning us as a partner for end-to-end managed services,” Padmanabhan added.
