Railways, NTPC to ink pact on power plant

NEW DELHI - The railway ministry would Sunday ink a pact with the NTPC for building a captive power plant for itself at Adra in West Bengal.
The power plant will have a capacity of 1,320 MW (2 units of 660 MW each) and employ environment-friendly super critical technology, said a railway ministry statement Saturday.
The pact will be signed by officials, in the presence of Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, at a function to be held at Anara near Adra in Purulia district, said the statement.
Minister of state for Rural Development Sisir Kumar Adhikari and Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy will also be present, said the statement.
The peak power requirement of the railways at present is about 3,500 MW, which is likely to go up to 4,500 MW by the end of the Twelfth Five Year plan, said the statement.
