Karunanidhi showing his scorn for democracy: Jayalalithaa

CHENNAI - AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa Monday said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi is showing his scorn for democracy by not recalling Telecom Minister A. Raja over the 2G spectrum scam.
“Ultimately, the buck stops at the doorstep of DMK president Karunanidhi,” Jayalalithaa said in a statement here.
“Despite the overwhelming evidence of Raja’s complicity in the spectrum scam that has caused great loss to the nation to the extent of Rs.1,90,000 crore; despite being indicted by practically every constitutional forum from the CVC (Central Vigilance Commission) to the Supreme Court, Karunanidhi has not deigned to recall Raja,” she said.
The AIADMK chief said Karunanidhi has very compelling reasons for his “inaction” - both financial and family-related.
“But what the nation, his allies and the media should realise is that Karunanidhi’s stand in the Raja affair only exemplifies the scorn he has for democracy,” she added.
Charging Raja with not quitting his post despite indictments by various courts and constitutional bodies, Jayalalithaa said: “The recent observations by the Supreme Court bench questioning the continuance of Raja as the union minister of telecommunications are damning to say the least.”
